Week 09 - EOC
5 Conventions to Network
CES (Consumer Electronic Show) - Very good for networking in relation to technology. In one way for me as a 3D modeler if someone has a design and they need a 3D Artist to model and render their design I can be the one to oblige them.
Comic Con - A convention where I can discuss designs and character concepts with other artists. It could give me great insight in different techniques on concept characters. As well as employing their skills for designs in a video game.
Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) - The main convention to get information about upcoming video games and discuss the latest technology used to make said video games. It is especially great in networking where I can get information from designers from the industry and possibly do work with them.
LVL Up Expo - Great convention where there are gaming tournaments from Console, table top, and PC. I see it as an opportunity to connect with other gamers, because there is guaranteed to be a handful who are video game designers.
Global Gaming Expo (G2E) - Since I am in a gambling city, it would be wise to connect with designers in the Casino Gaming industry, to cover my bases.

Week 07 EOC
Week 07 EOC – Linkedin
I
know only the basics of LinkedIn, it is another social media widget. I put so
far my name, interests, skills, and contact information. I am still going
through it learning about the features that it has to offer, especially in the
settings. I always like to see what the settings are like for everything. So
far I have connected to a few people that I have met through school, a couple
have 100s of contacts, which could benefit me. I do plan on completing my
profile for whatever the specifications I need to finish in. Also there is the
issue with the picture I currently have. I was told to not have too much of a
close up picture, and nothing too personal. I feel that I can upload a picture
of one of my finished projects, or even a 3D render of myself as a character of
some kind. That way it will show me (in a sense), and display my skills as a 3D
Designer. Next I could upload some images of my finished projects as well. I
remember seeing one of my connections having a few of his projects in his
profile. I could to the same with mine, that way it will draw the eye of the
viewer. Next I plan to obtain more connections, I was thinking at first I
connect with my fellow schoolmates, and some instructors. Although the rules
state that students and teachers can’t connect but some are no longer teaching
at the school so they could do, especially if they have 100s of connections. Then
when the time comes some for my career search, I can ask for a recommendations.
Week 05 EOC
Week 05 EOC: Organize
Job Search and Time
Just
like my career advisor and many other professional individuals have told me in
the past. Job searching is a job in itself, meaning that to get the job I want
I need to put in the effort into obtaining it. In the past I put about minimal
effort in searching for a job (to pay for school). I would search two to three
places for about a half hour to an hour every other day or so each week. This
in itself has had me in a long-standing relationship with unemployment in
between jobs. I would go about 6 months before I would be lucky enough to land
another job, which is why I was lucky to work for my current employer which is
a big time corporation. Of course my time there will not be permanent and I
will be searching again after graduating from school. That searching however
will be for my career in video game design and a lot of effort will need to be
put in to achieve that goal. In that time period of 6 months before my bills
initiate for school I would need to spend a lot of time with making sure my
finished projects are of Triple A quality, and there are an abundance of them
in my portfolio. Next I will use my portfolio, resume, and knowledge to the
many potential dream employers. Of course the major studios are out of state
and I do not have the funds to support myself out of state, but there are local
studios that I can submit myself to. As well as searching online for a few
hours each day for the latest Game Development jobs for my career.
Week 06 EOC
Week 06: EOC –
Seduction of the Online Web Surfer
For starters
it is about the front page, my instructor Mr. Pinto has was explaining that to
get people interested into my website was to draw the eyes of the viewer. Us as
curious beings do not interact with objects or interfaces that are static,
maybe we will interact with a static thing for a few second but afterwards
never to return. So with a widget like a slideshow with several images would be
a good start. Next I got the idea of putting my recent work or my ‘work in
progress’ projects on an animated image scroller. That way not only will I have
a slide show but another widget for the viewer to interact with. Another way
would be to market myself on social media. Such as Facebook, where I can create
a page that I submit work to. Tumblr, which is like a mini blog website that is
trending and a ton of people use. Another social media source would also be
Twitter, although a twitter account requires followers to be interested in.
Also to prevent people from losing interest in my website is to keep uploading
fresh content every week or so. I can use that in my recent work feed on my website.
I put images of my 2D and 3D projects in my recent work feed that way it will
be up to date. I am also thinking of an image limit on my Recent Work feed, for
example I say 10 images is my limit I put my finish projects in their respected
pages and the unfinished works. Perhaps have each image as a mini blog
describing my progress.

Week 04 EOC
Magdaleno_DevilWearsPradaAnalysis
In the selected scenes in The Devil Wears Prada, Andy (Anne
Hathaway) was first interviewing for the Runway Magazine to be an assistant to
the Chief Editor. The first of her problems with the interview was that she did
not dress appropriately for the type of environment Andy would be working in.
Second she did not research the company at all prior to the interview. An
example was that her first interviewer mentioned the Chief Editor Miranda
(Meryl Streep), which Andy did not research about and then asked on who Miranda
is. Her first interviewer did not take kindly to Andy’s ignorance but passed
it. Then came the news that Miranda was coming entering the building, at that
point everyone scrambled to their proper posts, procedures, apparel, as to not
incur the wrath of Miranda. After adjusting in her office Miranda then gave an
interview to Andy. Andy then made the clear mistakes that can be made in an
interview. First she was too generic, she said the cliché things that interviewers
could catch on especially Miranda. Miranda then gave Andy the queue to leave
her office because she failed her interview. But as she Andy was leaving she
stopped herself and stood up to Miranda and told her that she was more than
what Miranda has perceived to be which impressed Miranda. No one else who works
at the magazine does not have the courage to stand up to her, but Andy did
which is what she did right in the interview. Not much as she stood up for
herself but that she did not pretend to be something just to get hired. Now she
is hired by the magazine and still has much to learn on her career.
“be careful about what you tweet or
post online.”
“limiting your job search limits the
possibilities.”
“to really rock that interview, you’ve
got to push the fear aside and boost your confidence.”

Week 03 EOC
Networking can be very
beneficial to getting a person out there in a particular industry. Networking
at its core is “relationship-building” meaning that you make a contact by
meeting someone, making a connection with them, and getting their information
to benefit you for business purposes. For example in the film Swingers (1996),
Mike who was out of a “romantic” relationship tries to get back into the game.
He is a out of work comedian/actor who also has friends who are out of work
entertainers. Throughout the film Mike is pushed mainly by his friend Trent to
get back “into the game”. They played on the aspect of a romantic relationship,
but in actuality it was more for business purposes. They go to Las Vegas in a
way to bring Mike out of his element as a sort of training for Mike to make
connections in networking once again. Later back at home they meet more friends
of theirs and go to “parties”. To them meeting people discussing business,
projects, getting their numbers, and now they have become a contact, for Trent
anyways. Mike who is still reluctant on the premise of networking again still
has trouble putting him self out there. Then comes the point where he does make
a new contact through some effort in networking. But the thing about networking
is that the timing it takes to contact someone is crucial. Too soon and you are
made to look desperate, too long to contact and it will seem like you were
never interested. They played on the aspect of a couple days after the initial
contact for the “romantic” relationship aspect of the film. Mike did not follow
the guidelines his friends gave him by contacting a 2 days later, and blew the
bridge of his most recent contact. It is only a single contact that is lost,
and can easily be moved on from. Which helped Mike make a new contact later
that he was able to keep.
“Most people have to
learn business networking skills as they go.“
“Relationships are a foundation to
successful business.”
“The Internet offers tremendous
opportunities to set up networks.”
